That's the theme for the next Roland Michener Secondary School reunion which, according to organizer Ted Zajac, is shaping up to be a great event.

It takes place from July 30-Aug. 1 next year to coincide with the City of Timmins' 100th-anniversary celebrations.  The last RMSS reunion was held in 1993 and attracted 900 people, Zajac said.  "It was really successful," he said. "People still talk about that reunion."  Every single dollar raised during the three-day event will be put back into the community, he said.  Since the previous reunion, the committee has been giving $750 bursaries to RMSS students every year. It also purchased new computers for the school and a basketball score-clock for two public schools.

There are some funds left over in the account, Zajac said, and next year's reunion will top that off for many years to come.  Many residents were under the impression the reunion was going to be held this year, however, it makes sense to hold it at the same time the city hosts its anniversary celebrations, Zajac said.

"The city got a hold of me and asked me to hold off for another year so that it would be held in conjunction with the city's anniversary," he explained.

The reunion will have the same lineup of events but the venue for some of them will change. For example, the dance and some of the live entertainment will be held at the Whitney Arena.

Roland Michener Secondary School is an English public high school in South Porcupine, Ontario. It is a small school with an average enrollment of 350-500, and is part of the District School Board Ontario North East. Until the 1997-1998 school year, it was part of the Timmins Board of Education.

"We're looking at between 1,000 and 1,500 participants," he said. "The last time around, there was only 25 years of history with RMSS and those who had just graduated didn't want to attend the reunion. Read more...
